This past Saturday saw a big day at BikeSauce, the DIY space at Queen East and Broadview Avenue.
Between an Open House, a Family Ride to the Leslie Spit, Alley Cat Races and a Keg Party, the ‘Sauce “got their sauce on”, if ya know what I mean. They had fun doing it all day.
The newly renovated social hub has coffee, art and free wireless internet. The sustainable transportation advocacy centre and library boasts fully-stocked shelves with books and ‘zines on all sorts of cycling, civic engagement and Toronto history.
Here are a few photos from the day, courtesy of their facebook page:
You can also check out BikeSauce info right here on BikingToronto – they have a blog here too!

Just a reminder that BikeSauce is holding a fundraiser tomorrow night (Friday) that looks like it’s going to be fun and interesting (and for a great purpose – they are a registered non-profit).
What is BikeSauce?
Bike Sauce is a DIY bike repair space and community hub. We have our Grand Opening on April 17th 2010 at 717 Queen Street East.
This will be a place where you can fix your bicycle using our tools and recycled or new parts. If you dont know how to fix it, our volunteers will be there to help you. It will also be a social space where you can come and meet with your neighbours and figure out how to improve our city.

The BikeSauce has found a location, and is planning a fundraising party!
First things first… in case you haven’t heard of BikeSauce yet – here’s a quick intro:
BikeSauce is a new DIY bike shop in the east end of Toronto
This will be a place where you can fix your bicycle using our tools and recycled or new parts. If you dont know how to fix it, our volunteers will be there to help you. It will also be a social space where you can come and meet with your neighbours and figure out how to improve our city.
That’s right… you’ve probably heard of the BikePirates… well now that DIY spirit is coming to Toronto’s East End, specifically to the Broadview and Queen area, in mid-April!
They are looking for mechanic help at the moment:
We’re looking for experienced mechanics to build bikes – every Wednesday night and Saturday and Sunday 12-5.
If you can build up a bike out of used and new parts, come out and give us a hand!
We’re working out of our temporary space in Kensington Market. Turn down the alley between the TD machine and Essence of Life (at the Kensington and St. Andrews intersection). There is a garage on your right – just give a pound on the garage door!
I went by their work space in Kensington last week to say hi and take some photos for you:

The DIY Spirit!
There are plans for a fundraising party (BikeSauce is a registered non-profit) in early April. I’ll share details here on this blog for you soon.
