A few months ago, I posted about one of my favourite views on my commute home from work everyday… the view east along Wellesley – it’s urban, diverse and lively.

I’d now like to share a part of my morning commute with you… a part that I was very grateful for during the heat of this summer.

Namely, it’s the intersection of Bloor and Sherbourne as you approach it from the east.

For east enders like me, coming west along the Danforth and across the Bloor Viaduct on hot summer mornings was… well, it was hot.

Gladly, even in the hottest part of summer, big trees along the north side of Bloor where it heads northwest from the Viaduct towards Sherbourne create a nice oasis of shade on the bikelane for a fair stretch:

When you’re coming from the Danforth, this is the first dose of cool shade a cyclist gets when heading downtown. I’m very thankful for the Rosedale Ravine (which runs north of this part of Bloor)

Here is me looking tired (and needing a shave) just before reaching the shade on my way downtown:

Had a nice evening last night at the Pilot Tavern in Yorkville. A few people here on BikingToronto met up to talk bikes, home renovations, twitter, biostatistics, copyrighting, and lots of other stuff.

Guess what? I took my camera to get a table photo, but forgot I had it until I was on my way home. Duh, Joe. Duh.

Who was there? (deep breath…) James, Duncan, Steve, Annie, Todd, Michael, Claire and Ben.

Claire complained (or, um…. made the point) that she shares lots of photos of her bike, but not many others do, so I’ve gone and found photos of my bikes (past and present). Sheesh. haha.

The Old Bike(s):

I used to have a Raleigh mountain bike that I put hybrid-ish tires on. I have more photos that I can’t find right now, but here’s one of it laying in the grass (with my wife’s old bike beside it) on the Toronto Islands during one of our many Island Bike Picnics.

Here we are on the Ride for Heart in 2007. Yeah, we did 50 km on mountain bikes, because we are hardcore. haha.

The New Bike:

Again, there are more photos of my bike that I can’t find at the moment, but here’s a couple from when I took photos of the West Toronto Railpath. My bike is a Trek 7100. It’s great.

That is all. Have a great weekend!

Joe.
