Some mornings I count the other cyclists I see. It’s a very unscientific way of seeing the numbers of cyclists rise as the weather warms up every spring.
The Chart:
(this chart should update automatically as I update the Google Doc where it is hosted)
Joe Bikes blog posts about the counts are here.
Here are the specifics:
1) I count the cyclists I see on my morning commute
2) My commuting route can vary, but is generally the same from day-to-day: I commute from Danforth and Woodbine to Danforth and Broadview, the Bloor Viaduct and the Sherbourne and Wellesley Bikelanes. Sometimes I take major streets, sometimes I’ll take sidestreets and alleyways.
3) My commute is about 30 minutes long – and can start and finish anytime between 7:00 and 9:00 am.
3) To be counted, a person must be riding or walking their bike. A bike has to be being used.
4) the cyclists can be going in any direction – same way as me, opposite way as me… along cross-streets to my route, even parallel to my route (if I look up a sidestreet and see someone biking along a parallel street, they count)
