  1. My friend, currently a non-cyclist, wants to try biking from Birchmount to the College Ossington area next spring. I've only been as far East as Broadview, so can recommend taking Sherbourne and then Carlton/College across, but I have no idea what the best route is for the Eastern part of the trip. I'm guessing Danforth, but wonder if it's bike friendly once you get further East. I don't know yet how far N he is along Birchmount, any idea how long it would take to get from College/Ossington to Birchmount/Danforth? If we had safe, physically separated bikelanes on Bloor and Danforth then I bet it could be very fast. But if he's riding in the door zone part of the way or stuck in bike traffic, like along College, then I imagine it could take close to an hour.

  2. Good question - south of Danforth - which is fine until you get west of about Main Station, they have the option of Dundas East, which has bikelanes until Kingston Road - but then they'd still have to go uphill to the Danforth and the last part of the trip.

North of Danforth they can take the Cosburn bikelanes all the way across - they go pretty well to the north end of Main Street - and then the last part of the Danforth is left ...

So... Danforth may be the best option for speed's sake. :) Separated bikelanes there would be fantastic.

  3. There isn't a good way, but I'd take Danforth. The lanes are wider and cars expect to see bike traffic.
Kingston Rd. is in terrible shape.
