Still too many vehicles spewing smog on city's roadways (Oct. 16, 2009)
Word that Vancouver aims to remove 30,000 vehicles a day from the road during the Olympics may be less a temporary inconvenience than a sign of the future.
City residents may not have taken to heart Mayor Gregor Robertson's pledge last year that this city aims to become the greenest in the entire world.
Getting Vancouverites out of their cars will be integral to that goal.
For a city that purports to be green, we are far behind European cities such as Amsterdam and Copenhagen where, on an average day, some 36 per cent of commuters are pedalling, even in business suits, in skirts, in high heels.
