   It was great to see the City add bike lanes to Royal York Road during the redesign of the road back in 2007.

   Unfortunately, the street lacks any speed related signage which means that most drivers (TTC buses included) elect to travel at between 50k and 80k effectively scaring the cyclists back unto the sidewalk.

   Seems that 5 inches of white paint isn't quite enough to make kids and adults feel like they can safely commute to work or school on the road. Can you blame them?

   That is certainly an issue with suburban arterial roads. Bike lanes need to be separated where motor vehicles can (and do) reach speeds that far exceed anyone on a bicycle.

   What is the speed limit on that street supposed to be? I'm guessing 50 km/h?

   Yes. The street is a 50KM zone. I've raised the issue with Councillor Milczyn and the traffic folk on several occasions but nothing ever happens. BTW, I take umbrageto Royal York betweem Dundas and Bloor being called suburbia. It's also a minor-arterial road with nothing but homes between Bloor and Dundas. ;)

   My mistake, anything West of High Park is suburbia to me.

   This is one of my favourite bike lanes, it's rare to have such a long stretch on an semi-arterial road given over to bikes. The problem with speeding cars is the same on every major street, no different here.
