  1. I just found this video of the Grand Street bike lane in NYC via Newamsterdamize and really would love to see some like this in Toronto. First candidate, IMO, is redoing College street like this. Remove the recessed parking (or whatever the real name for that is that collects all the snow), and reinstall it like this.

Yes, I know, you're still in the door zone if you're not careful. That said, it is still an improvement on being in the door zone with a lane full of automobile traffic behind you waiting to run you down when you hit the ground.

The green paint is a really nice touch as well.

  2. Awesome. I'd love to see this done on Bloor and Danforth - make parking 24/7 to help businesses, and have one lane of car traffic each way. It would make the streets much more pedestrian friendly too. :)

  3. Wouldn't that be amazing? On the way back from the last Critical Mass I ran into a guy on Dundas who helped get that bike lane approved. Apparently that angle: 24/7 on-street parking was what won everyone over. They went out and canvassed the area, explained this to residents and got tons of signatures.

Like I keep saying - we can't advocate for bike lanes by saying they'll make us safer. I don't believe the average driver cares. But sell them something that benefits *them* and we'll get somewhere.
