Terrible news, a teenager riding a bike on the sidewalk in Scarborough ran down a woman and she didn't make it. Bracing myself for the bickering, and fingerpointing at cyclists.
Can we just skip that this time? Can we acknowledge that human beings break laws regardless of whether they're on wheels or feet? Instead, let's address some of the root causes: People need better cycling infrastructure, especially in areas like that to feel safe enough to get *off* the sidewalks. New cyclists need education to know how to conduct themselves on the road, and drivers need education as to how to better share the road.
My thoughts are with the family of the woman who was hit and also the 15 year old kid on the bike. While I don't condone what he did, this is a hell of a thing for a kid that age to have to live with.
