And I spoke too soon. The keys were waiting for me in the zipcar. Next time I go to the bike room I'm taking the monster lock off and replacing it with another lock I have that has a duplicate key. I'll have to check with the mfr to see if I can't get a duplicate key if I give them the serial number.

It may come to that. Think it'll cut through something like this? I figure cutting through the U-lock portion is the way to go.

Have to remember to talk to security here to make sure they know I'm doing it to my own bike lest I end up in hot water trying to 'steal' my own bike.

Yeah, I don't know how much locksmiths charge, but a good boltcutter will run about $40 at Home Depot.

Yeah, I'm probably going to end up cutting it if I can't track down the key. Probably cost just as much for the locksmith as the lock. Thanks.

Get the bolt cutters and cut the lock, probably cheaper then locksmith.

OK, so I did something really stupid. I have a bike locked up in the bike room of our apartment with a hardened steel chain lock. Today I lost my keys and apparently either the spare key is packed or lost. The result is that I now have no access to my bike.

Any suggestions? Any locksmiths you'd recommend? Also, this bike was purchased used and I have no proof of purchase, so I don't even know why they'd necessarily open it for me.

This is one of the times when I wish I'd secured it with a cheap lock instead of this beast. I don't even care if I have to break this lock, I'd just like my bike back.
