I agree Jeff... as long as you have a thermos cup with a pretty good lid, things should be okay, even over bumps.

My cruisers big comfy seat and fat tires actually smooth out a bumpy road quite nicely, like a big old Cadillac. the fat tires also make me invulnerable to streetcar tracks. I love it. I really want one of these cup holders for riding to work in the morning. :^)

I like it! Tunes would be good for the ride but I'm not among those who feel comfortable wearing headphones and riding. Not sure about the cup, though. I like the *idea* of it but I think I'd still be spilling like crazy cruising quickly over the potholed roads.

Now in my utopia where my commutes are short enough that I don't have to ride quickly, and where the roads are completely smooth, I can see myself switching to a nice cruiser or dutch bike and attaching one of those.

One of the Globe bloggers in the US has one of these. I didn't expect to see it available in Toronto for some reason. Excellent news that Urbane has one.

Here's the Globe blogger's setup:

Yeah, that's a boombox in the front rack.

This would make a fantastic Christmas gift for so many people I know!

From NOW Magazine:

If you need a jolt of java while you ride, mount FELT’s cup holder ($25, Urbane Cyclist, 180 John, 416-979-9733, ucycle.com) on your handlebars but beware cycling with scalding coffee down speed bump-pocked streets!

Review of Jet Fuel Coffee Shop

Some excerpts of comments that show the range of opinion. You're right Todd... seems to be a place that is either loved (by regulars) or hated (by outsiders)... although the BlogTO reviewer seemed to have a pleasant experience.

the service sucks... the coffee is good... but yeah, the service sucks real bad... they don't seem that motivated to do business.

Definately the most overrated cafe in Toronto.
They should just close.
Service blows, and the coffee blows.

"popular among bike messengers" means "free coffee for bike messengers".
Do you really trust bike messengers to have discerning taste either?

This place is overrated. They only serve espresso type beverages and the barista looks like he is stoned. If you are a coffee afficianado who want freshly roasted coffee blends look elsewhere, try Moonbeam, Dark Horse, or Manic Coffee.

i only make it to TO from kingston a few times a year but make a point of starting my day off at jetfuel. the coffee has been good, the muffins have a lot of fruit in them and i enjoy the atmosphere - it has its own buzz. supporting cycling as an urban form of transportation/recreation seems to me to be a good thing. i kind of enjoy real, unscripted service.

i only make it to TO from kingston a few times a year but make a point of starting my day off at jetfuel. the coffee has been good, the muffins have a lot of fruit in them and i enjoy the atmosphere - it has its own buzz. supporting cycling as an urban form of transportation/recreation seems to me to be a good thing. i kind of enjoy real, unscripted service.

People who say the service sucks must be at the wrong Jetfeul... The Barista's are excellent and actully know how to make top notch coffee drinks, unlike starbucks where they just push a button and out comes a drink where they add whipping cream and chocolate or carmel syrup on top. No thanks.

JetFuel is a real coffee shop for people who appriciate good coffee, and not fancy marketing styles (tripple super grande this and the other mocha rasberry frap)
Going to Starbucks for a coffee is like going to McDonalds for Dinner. I can't get a long Espresso at Starbucks (Becasue there's no button for it), and I can't get Hamburger medium rare at Mcdonalds... See the connection. I can't wait for my next long espresso from JetFuel!

Wow - and such varied comments too - they either adore the place or despise it. Lately I've been partial to Broadview Espresso. It's on a route I use a lot and they make a mean americano. Still my favourite place in town has to be Alternative Grounds - too bad they're all the way at the other end of the city.

Jet Fuel is pretty renowned as a cyclist hang-out (particularly for couriers), and BlogTO has a fairly in-depth review of it:

Jet Fuel Coffee is pretty rock n' roll, you know. Not folky or indie or garagey, but like, the good old-fashioned kind. The kind that drives a Harley.

Like any good rock star, the presence felt upon our first meeting is larger than life. Though I had previously never heard of this place, it sinks in pretty soon that I probably should have. Or I should feel like I should have.

I've never seen so many comments (40, as of right now) on a BlogTO review as this one has!
