Internet don’t fail me now!

My hitch issue has not been solved yet. Our brilliant solution had one little flaw – the hole on the hitch arm and the hole in the bracket don’t line up. The hitch arm has a giant spring, which causes the whole thing to rotate when not under tension. So if the quick fix isn’t going to work, the next idea is custom bracket. And it’s gotta be on the cheap. So while I appreciate the suggestion to go see the guy on the island who custom builds trailers – I don’t think I can afford his services right now.

The question is, have you seen anything that looks like this:

It’s just a sketch – the proportions don’t need to be exactly the same – just that general shape. If I can go to a music store to get parts for the battery, maybe there’s something else already out there that will work just fine for the hitch. I’m going to print out this little sketch, and start showing it around. Maybe tape it to some lamp standards a la “Have you seen this part?”

On the bright side, finished my under-the-saddle-bag for my repair kit, and have everything except a spare tube in it. Will get some pictures once the bike is back outside again. It looks really sad sitting in the hallway.

I’d check Home Depot… there are an insane amount of weird little brackets in that store. You won’t get one there made for bikes, but can probably “hack” something made for another purpose to work for you.

Go to the hardware section and if you can find someone wearing an orange apron – find the oldest guy you can… they generally have the most knowledge.

Yeah, many many years ago I worked at the Depot. The older guys generally had other careers in construction or a trade, and know a TON. :)

While not always a sure bet, Active Surplus on Queen West may have something like this. They are located at 345 Queen St W above the ALDO and Bluenotes.

I don’t know if it’ll be useful but I think I have a spare one of these: somewhere in the house I could try to dig up. (If not you could likely order one). If all else fails it looks like they sell individual parts so you may still be in luck.

Let me know if it might be useful.

That looks like exactly what I need. Made my day Todd.

Let me dig and see if I can’t find it now. I think I know where it is. Email me your email address and we can figure out how to get the part to you. My address is toddtyrtle at quirkynomads dot com
