Critical Mass is a group ride that happens on the last Friday of every month. It generally has no discernable leader or plan, just an intent to ride together, either as a ”bike party”, political protest, or pro-cycling activity. It is an event that is held in cities all over the world.
PLEASE NOTE: Critical Mass ignores certain traffic rules in order to keep the group of cyclists (often numbers in the 100s) from being divided. This includes ”corking” cross traffic at intersections and going through red lights. This is done as an attempt to keep the cyclists safer by not allowing cars to drive within the group. Critical Mass often attracts ”anti-establishment” and ”anti-car” cycling advocates, which can create a difficult and abrasive atmosphere.
