New Bikelane Opportunity – Royal York Reconstruction

via the City of Toronto on facebook:

There will be a public meeting tomorrow, to discuss the re-construction of Royal York Rd. from Dundas St. West to where the bike lanes end at Ashley Rd. This re-construction could be an opportunity to extend the existing bike lanes.

Meeting details:

Wednesday, February 16, 2011  –  6 to 9 p.m.
St. Giles Kingsway Church   (15 Lambeth Rd)

More details are here, but here are some excerpts from that link:

The construction work will result in:

  • Full pavement and sidewalk replacement
  • Construction of bicycle lanes in both directions
  • New left turn lanes at the Humbertown Plaza entrance and Royal York Court.
  • Reconfiguration of ramps onto Royal York Rd. from Dundas St. W. and Lambeth Rd.
  • Replacement of sanitary sewer, storm sewer and watermain where required
  • End of driveway repairs where required
  • Boulevard improvements including grass and new street trees

Continuation of Bike Lanes
Bicycle lanes provide safer cycling opportunities for families. They also reduce incidents of vehicles weaving around cyclists.

The City’s Official Bike Plan includes bicycle lanes on Royal York Road. These new lanes will connect with existing bike lanes on Royal York Road north of Ashley Road.
