Introducing “Rate My Velo” – A Rating Site for Bicyclists

RateMyVelo3

James Schwartz, Toronto cyclist and founder of the Urban Country has a great new project on the go - Rate My Velo, a rating site for bicyclists. The site is set up so people can look at 2 photographs of regular people in regular clothes riding regular bikes, and vote on which photo they like the best.  It's a great way to get the point across that not every cyclist on the road is training for the Tour de France.  The vast majority of us are just getting around the city. I'll let James … [Read more...]

New Photo of Roncesvalles’ Raised BikeLanes

roncybump

A few weeks ago we shared a construction photo of the new streetcar/bikelane infrastructure on Roncesvalles Ave... essentially the road rises up to sidewalk level at some streetcar stops to not only allow easier streetcar boarding, but allow cyclists safe passage (ie. not having to ride on the streetcar tracks to pass the streetcar stop). Now, shared on the City of Toronto's Cycling Facebook group is a photo of the (almost) completed "bump-out"... all it needs now is signage and pavement … [Read more...]

Here are photos of the ride (and ghost bike installation) from Jun Nogami: … [Read more...]

Photos of the New Dufferin Bikelanes

Dufferin Jog No More

True, the Dufferin bikelanes only exist under the brand new underpass that eliminated the Dufferin Jog, but any infrastructure is good infrastructure. :)  Underpasses can be a little scary on a bike without good lighting and bikelanes. On The Blogs: Cyclocross in Cedarvale Park

cc

Bikeroo checked out the Canadian Cyclocross Championships in Cedarvale Park (and previously shared with us a crash video): For the uninitiated, cyclocross is a gritty cycling race in which riders race along an off road course. Technical skill is important as they have to ride in tight quarters with each other but navigate around or through obstacles like barriers, roots, and ruts. Some barriers such as low walls or even stairs force riders off the bike making running and jumping a key … [Read more...]

Bike boxes will soon be installed at several intersections on Harbord and College. They allow cyclists to move to the head of … [Read more...]
