Photos and Video from the Ice Bike Races

February 14, 2010

Last night I went and checked out Icycle 2010, the Ice Bike Races held at Dufferin Grove Park every year.

Beforehand, I met up with Todd and James Schwartz (of TheUrbanCountry.com) at 3-Speed (I highly recommend their sirloin burger) and we chatted about cycling, Toronto neighbourhoods and Chinese New Year.

We then walked over to the park and enjoyed a fun evening of people racing bikes around a sheet of ice!

BlogTO has an excellent run-down of the evening.

Here are some photos and video from the Races:

Videos:
(the first two are from the Mens Finals, the last is from the “Rubber Race” with normal bikes, so it’s a lot slower)

Discussing Downtown Bike Infrastructure for 2010

I wasn’t able to make it to the Bikeway Network Public Consultation Event to discuss downtown bike infrastructure for 2010… but thankfully great people like Chris Tindal, James Schwartz and Dave Meslin are there.

One very cool thing coming out of it that’s been rumoured for a while is that segregated bikelanes are planned for University Ave (via @jamesschwartz)

You can follow people tweeting the event (like Chris Tindal, who took the above photo, by following the hashtag #BikeTO.

UPDATE:

Yvonne Bambrick of the Bike Union snapped a couple pics of the crowd with her cellphone:

Photos from the Coldest Day of the Year Ride

February 1, 2010

This past Saturday saw the Coldest Day of the Year Ride, and after a very mild January, the weather co-operated with -17 weather for the large group of cyclists who came out to ride the waterfront.

This post has photos from myself, Duncan, and Jnyyz… you can click each of these photos (just a few from the larger sets) to go to the blog posts and collections they are from.

This is maybe half of the whole crowd

This years ride was twice as cold, and saw twice as many participants as 2009…. but I’m not wishing for the same trend to continue next year.  -34 would be a good challenge, though.

Retro Photo of the Day: Atrium Sculpture

December 15, 2009

BikingToronto is down for construction now, so I thought I’d post some old school Photos of the Day so that there will be some old content that people can re-discover when the site goes live again. :)
