Things to do in Toronto this Weekend on your Bike

I try to highlight bike events when I can… I often don’t have the time to promote other than on the Facebook Page and on @bikingtoronto on twitter, but here goes.

Saturday, Sept 22

Toronto Girls Cupcake Ride

The Girls Cupcake Ride is like a Toronto bike tradition now… it’s finishing it’s 3rd year and is just as awesome as it’s always been.  This Saturday is the last ride of 2012 and “instead of going to a bakery that offers cupcakes, we’ll be starting at a cookie bakery that will bake some special ‘cupcake cookies’ just for us (or you can order a freshly baked, custom cookie) and will offer us a 15% off discount! Then we’ll ride across town to check out the Red Bull Mini Drome time trial qualifiers at the Brickworks, which start at 2pm.”

It’s a great time (or so my wife and daughter tell me) and Hyedie the organizer is a good friend.  Oh, and in case you can’t tell, no boys allowed.

Get all the details here.

Toronto Boys Sausage Party

This is the very first Sausage Party Ride, organized by the great people (Joe & Denise) behind the Prix Fixie Food Ride.

A route for the men while their female friends are doing the September Toronto Girls’ Cupcake Ride that will allow them to meet up at the Brick Works for the Red Bull Mini Drome.  While the women start with sweets, the men will enjoy three courses in reverse order.

Get all the details here.

Cycle for Sight End-of-Summer Fun Ride

The wonderful event Cycle for Sight organizes not only their main ride, but training rides too.  They’ve organized one last hurrah for summer on Saturday.  All the details are via their facebook page.

Sunday, Sept. 23

Word on the Street

What’s this?  This doesn’t seem bike-related does it?  Well… no… BUT, not only is Dandyhorse Magazine going to have their brand spankin’ new issue at WOTS this year, BUT you can not only ride your bike there, you can park it for free with Cycle Toronto‘s amazing Bike Valet Service.

It’s a truly wonderful service.  I never worry less about the safety of my bike as when it’s with the Bike Valet.

Word on the Street is at Queen’s Park Circle

Reminder: Girls Cupcake Ride Tomorrow!

Just a reminder that the Toronto Girls Cupcake Ride is rolling tomorrow.   They have planned a great Cupcake Picnic on the Toronto Islands!

My wife and daughter are going.  Yeah, I’m a little jealous. :)

Original post by Hyedie about the ride follows:

This month, the Toronto Girls’ Cupcake Ride will be a picnic on the Toronto Islands!

Make or buy cupcakes (or other goodies) to share with other riders at a Lunch Picnic on the Toronto Island!

START: Hanlan’s Point Ferry Gate

TIME: 11:00am

DATE: July 17, 2011

Let’s take the ferry over to HANLAN’S POINT. We’ll meet at the Hanlan’s Point ferry gate (the Toronto mainland side).

We’ll be taking the 11:15am ferry, so please ensure you are paid and at the gates a little before boarding.

**There is the 39th Annual Festival of India being held during this whole weekend. It was super busy last year, so I suggest arriving at least 45 minutes before the departure time to pay for your ferry ticket and get through the gates in time. Once through the gates, however, most people will be taking the Centre Island ferry so we shouldn’t have any problems.

From Hanlan’s Point we’ll cycle to Ward’s Island, explore Algonquin Island, loop back and then find a picnic spot to share our goodies (if anyone wants to buy any additional goodies/drinks we can do that at some of the cafes on Wards).

• We may not find a picnic bench, so if you have any picnic blankets that you can bring that would be great.

• If you can bring a plate and fork in case people decide to bring something more substantial than cupcakes to share!

If weather doesn’t cooperate, we will postpone the date until the following week!

Cupcake tip: if you are bringing your own baked creation, we found that waiting to decorate until we got to our picnic spot ensured that the icing didn’t smoosh around in our baskets/panniers.

Please remember to read the Ride Rules!

RSVP to the Facebook event page if you like!

Sorry gents! This ride is for girls only but keep checking back here for info on the next co-ed ride. It will involve pies and it will be in August!
