For a brief, shining moment (a few weeks), the Bloor Viaduct bike lane had bollards. The city has now removed them “for the winter” because of course they did.
Does this mean that all the bollards on bike lanes all over the city will be removed this winter?
No, no it doesn’t. Bloor will not be losing the bollards along the bike lane pilot. Neither will any other bike lane with bollards in the city (except maybe Wellesley, which is a construction DISASTER right now.
The fact is, Toronto has figured out how to plow bike lanes, and the viaduct bike lanes need bollards more than any other ones. The viaduct is SCARY without bollards on the bike lanes, even for me, and I’ve biked them twice a day for 8 years. WITH bollards, the viaduct is a dream to ride. Without them, it’s scary and nerve wracking.
Come on, Toronto. You can do better.
