There’s a new bike group in East Toronto, formed after 2 Cycle Toronto Ward Groups and a Bike Festival org decided to work even more closely together:
From their mailing list:
Launching Our New Identity
Ward 36 Cyclists, TO35Cycles, and the Toronto East Bike Festival, after working together for years, have come together as Toronto East Cyclists.
We looked for a name that promotes cycling culture further east: When you hear “east Toronto”, or the “east side” what comes to mind is probably the neighbourhoods to the east of the Don River. We are “Toronto East”.
Our name celebrates all the great things happening in cycling in our communities and can be recognized by others who want to connect: We are Ward 36 Cyclists, TO35Cycles, and many others in the former city of Scarborough who are promoting cycling.
We often work with the great cyclist groups to the west of us, we are part of Bells on Danforth, we are excited about Scarborough Cycles (and its hubs at Birchmount Bluffs Neighbourhood Centre and AccessPoint on Danforth). We have great partnerships with organizations like the Crossroads of the Danforth BIA and would like to continue to build on the Toronto East Bike Festival.
Lastly, in anticipation of an upcoming ward re-alignment/re-numbering by the City, we thought it just made even more sense to get ahead of the curve now, and continue to build our identity/capacity instead of starting all over a few years from now.
Toronto East Cyclists First Meeting, Tues. Mar. 28, 7pm
Crossroads of The Danforth BIA office 3345 Danforth Ave.
Join us as we dream and plan for the warm cycling weather ahead!
