EVENT: Sun, June 15 – Cyclefare at The Leslieville Farmers’ Market

Sunday, June 15, 2014 – 09:0014:00

The Leslieville Farmers’ Market wants you to buy your baguette by bike.

The second annual Cyclefare – featuring cargo bikes and accessories, cycling advocates and two-wheeled vendors – will take place on Sunday, June 15, 2014. The market invites bike-minded businesses to get in touch with ideas about potential collaborations.

Last year’s event featured gelato on wheels; liquid chocolate in a bike-powered blender; 32 Spokes (our ward’s cycling advocacy group); sales and displays of grocery-carrying accessories; a used-bike drive for Charlie’s FreeWheels; free bike check-ups; and a bike wash. Unusual cargo bikes from a variety of enthusiasts were also on display.

A cargo bike expo: Cyclefare is an opportunity for people who create or appreciate cargo bikes and people with food businesses to discuss market trends and opportunities. It’s a place to show off that sweet ride you’ve been working on, or a new contraption you’ve built to get your eggs home from the market in one piece.

Cyclefare celebrates the past, present and future of the bicycle in Toronto as a utilitarian vehicle. With this event, The Leslieville Farmers’ Market hopes to introduce and encourage cross-pollination between couriers, cargo bike retailers, commuters, caterers, and restaurateurs.

VIDEO: A DIY repair shop created by students for students

A great video introduction to U of T’s BikeChain from Global News (except there’s an ad that runs before it): ‘Bikechain’ was created in 2005 as a student project serving the University of Toronto student community. This DIY bicycle repair shop is based out of the St. George campus and is open to everyone on […]

MAPS! Helping cyclists avoid smoggy routes in Toronto and Montreal

Amazing tool!  Played with it a long time.  Very telling that when you turn off the street map, high pollution levels still indicate where roads (and especially highways and the airport) are, and where the ravines (without highways) are. It is essentially a Google Map with an extra layer representing the average concentration of […]
