UPDATE! 44 shirts have been bought. This has now raised $264 for Bikes without Borders‘ Pedal-Powered Hope Project!
On my way to work this morning I had a little brainstorm about making a Jack Layton I Bike T.O. shirt, so that’s what I did.
It’s orange (you can change that to another colour if you wish), it memorializes Jack (who LOVED biking Toronto), and it includes the end of his final letter to Canadians.
The shirt is $24.95, and 100% of the profits ($6 per shirt) will go to Bikes without Borders to support their excellent work. I think Jack would approve.
Bikes Without Borders is a federally registered Canadian non-profit organization using bikes and bike-related solutions as a tool for development in marginalized communities.
Bikes Without Borders is working with a Malawian-based NGO (YONECO) to establish a program that will provide Community Health Workers in 7 districts with 400 new bikes and 100 bicycle ambulances. Providing a bicycle or bicycle ambulance to a CHW allows them to reach up to 5 times as many patients, reach remote communities with patient support and HIV/AIDS prevention education, and do their work more efficiently and with greater impact. 400 bikes and 100 bicycle ambulances will allow our network of CHWs in Malawi to reach an estimated 15,000 additional people with lifesaving medication, prevention education and additional support services.
Just $150 purchases a reliable, durable bike for a Community Healthcare Worker in Malawi. $400 is enough to purchase a bicycle ambulance. Visit the donations page to make your investment in the future of African healthcare!
Buy the shirt. Buy some for friends. Remember Jack. Let his life inspire you.

1) great idea!
2) WOMAN’S VERSION ASAP, please!
3) Not *entirely* sure that colour is orange, but maybe it’s just my monitor.
Thanks Jennifer. I oranged up the shirt colour a bit more, and added a women’s version.

I would have ordered these, but I can’t bring myself to buy a T-shirt from the US and paying duty on it when it’s to support a Canadian Politician. Too bad – if it was Canadian made, organic cotton you would have had me.
Yeah – unfortunately there are not very many CDN organic options out there… but if someone has a line on something, I’d be glad to know about it.
Will there be children’s shirt sizes available?
BikeSauce sources t-shirts from Me To We Style (Canadian factories, organic cotton), check it out: http://www.metowestyle.com/
Thanks Melody!
How about a Vancouver T? I’m sure a lot would sell!
If 100% of the profit is going to bike without borders out of $25 that should be about $12-$15 not $6 that you are claiming … come on be honest …great idea … just be honest
Thanks for your concern Paul. We made the shirts on spreadshirt.com (which isn’t cheap)… The spreadshirt cost is 18.95 and we added $6 to bring it to 24.95
Is there anyway to get one of these shirts for today?’
You should do them with just I bike (leave out the city) then they would sell all over the country.
love the shirt but like kathryn am put off by the shirts coming from the US. gotta support locally.
check out BLANK,the shirts are made in quebec. http://www.portezblank.com/
that shirt costs $19!? The only profit is 6 bucks..? really!
