Photos from the Sweet Ride: Cupcake Edition

Saturday was an absolutely great time as we had the Sweet Ride: Cupcake Edition.  We had a great turnout of 22 people (I think) – we seemed to have more people when we finished than when we began – and all of them were super nice and friendly.

Here’s a re-cap of the ride with LOTS of pretty photos for you. All photos by myself or Hyedie Hashimoto or Craftleen.

We started out at the Cupcakery ( 1034 St Clair Avenue West, near Dufferin ) where the owner, Jennifer, surprised us all and gave us all FREE cupcakes!  Wow!   After a lot of rain in the morning, the sun came out and it got quite hot – and you can see that we weren’t bundled up or anything. We stood around and got to know eachother and ate cupcakes.  Good times.

Oh perhaps the coolest part is that a guy just happened by our group and was all “what’s going on?” and we told him… and he decided to join in on a whim. Stuff like that rocks.

We then hit the road, and essentially took Davenport, Jarvis, Gerrard and Dundas East bikelanes on our way to Leslieville. Biking with a group of 22 people is a little challenging.. as we tried to stick together as much as possible – so there was a lot of stopping as parts of the group didn’t make it through all the red lights. The huge large-scale left turns were also challenging, but also fun, I think.

We finally made it to Bobbette & Belle ( 1121 Queen Street East, near Jones ) – our destination! This may be the largest (in terms of square feet) cupcake store in the city (although they do far more than just cupcakes), but we still surrounded their store with bikes and filled their store with hungry, cupcake-craving cyclists. :)

My wife and 10-month old daughter surprised me by being at Bobbette & Belle when we arrived too!

Here are just a few photos of the goods on display as well as the fun time eating we all had there!

FINALLY, here’s a fantastic group shot of all of us – full of cupcakes and happy with bicycling around the city!

Thank You:

  • Big thanks go out to the Cupcakery and Bobbette & Belle for hosting our first “Sweet Ride” of 2011.
  • Huge thanks to Hyedie for co-organizing this with me… go check out her Girls Cupcake Ride if you’re female and are interested in regular cupcake rides.
  • Finally – Enormous thanks to everyone that came out and participated. You guys and gals are who made the ride so much fun and so successful! Those that wanted to come (but couldn’t, due to other commitments) are also appreciated… as you’ll be able to participate in future rides. :)

Future Rides:

Hyedie and I already have a couple ideas for future Sweet Rides, and we’ll be sharing these with you soon. In the meantime, be sure and check our websites our on Facebook (BikingToronto & Cupcake Ride) as well as on Twitter (@bikingtoronto and @cupcakeride), where we’ll be sending out news, etc.

OH YEAH! Steamwhistle expands its network of bike repair stations

Oh yeah!  BlogTO has picked up the BikingToronto post last week about this.  Steamwhistle deserves lots of toasts. As Biking Toronto reports, over the last year or so the beer company has installed similar stations at the Brick Works, the Duke of York pub, and most recently in front of Bike Sauce. They’ve also been […]

NEWS: Why not make biking on sidewalks legal in the suburbs?

I tend to agree with the main concept here… that suburban arterials need bike infrastructure badly… but cars go SO fast on those roads, it’s impossible to feel safe even in a bikelane that is just paint. A physical barrier (curb, bollards, etc) is needed, or an cycling addition on the side of sidewalks.  Many […]

OH YEAH! How I learned to love cycling my way to work

I’ll be honest, and I hate to admit this, but I used to be that person that perpetually ran five minutes late—to everything. I’d do my best to be timely, but in many circumstances, I just couldn’t seem to make it to my commitments on time. A few years ago my brother became a bicycle […]
