Bixi Toronto has signed up 700 people!

It was only 6 days ago that we reported that Bixi Toronto had passed the 600 annual subscribers mark, and now we’re happy to tell you that they’ve passed the 700 level.

This means that 700 Torontonians have each plunked down $95 ($107 with HST) for a membership that gives them unlimited rides around the downtown core.  There needs to be 1000 people signed up before Nov. 30th for the system to launch in May 2011.

Have you signed up yet?  It’s $95 (+HST = $107.35) for an entire year!  That gives you unlimited free rides for an entire year (as long as your trip is less than 30 minutes).

There will be 1,000 Bixi bikes sprinkled all over the downtown core (click for map) at 80 Bixi stations… all between Bloor, Jarvis, Lake Ontario and Spadina.  The perfect transportation option for downtown zipping around.

what is going to happen when you reach a Bixi Station and there are no empty spots to return your Bixi Bike?

  • Good question Tom, and it’s answered on the excellent FAQ page on the Bixi Toronto site:

What do I do if there are no empty bike docks when I want to return my bike?

You can obtain an additional 15 minutes free of charge from the terminal to give you enough time to return your bike to another nearby bike station. You will need your BIXI-key (1-year subscription) to identify yourself. You should consult the map posted at most stations to find nearby bike stations, or the online map (available soon).
