This is a route from Queen’s Quay and Lower Sherbourne to the “Darcy Allen Sheppard Memorial Bikeway” (my invention, from Huntley west on Bloor to Avenue Road). A bicycle icon marks the spot where messengers, and many more set up a Memorial to Darcy in the days after his death – on August 31, last year.

Hi there, just wondering if you have any advice for me – on Wednesday during rush hour I have to bike from Dovercourt and Bloor to York University. Looking for the most pleasant and safest route,

thanks

Todd Tyrtle left the map below map in response, with a note:

Sure – the route I take isn’t too bad, though I go to Dufferin and Steeles. I’d say start with this: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Dufferin-Station-to-Dufferin-and-Steeles but once you get to Dufferin and Supertest go left. Make a right on Alness and a left on Steeles. (Sorry – this is a bit crappy but you don’t have to stay here long). Left on Petrolia and then right on Canarctic. That will take you right on to the York campus.

There are some even quieter sidestreets on the Bikely route but that route is my best balance between being pleasant/quiet and too slow because of frequent stop signs.

Hope this helps!

This route starts at where the Martin Goodman Trail connects with Queen’s Quay West. It’s a challenge to find a good route north into the core from Queen’s Quay West, Bathurst, Spadina, York, Bay and Yonge are all awful car routes full of cabs and noxious carbon monoxide – this is my favorite alternative. It’s a beautiful ride around to the Steam Whistle Roundhouse Brewery, up and around Rogers Centre (Sky Dome) to Peter Street, then a zig-zag at Queen onto Soho and through the ally to Beverley just north of Queen.

You have to take a “screen shot” of your map, then push the upload/insert button (top right of this box), and upload your picture (remember to link your uploaded picture to the original map). It’s a little complicated – I’m working on a simplification. I hope these are up in time to be handy for folks today..
